Leaving behind the familiar and comfortable, setting off into new and unknown worlds.
Cinema Online was born out of the extraordinary global situation in 2020. Due to coronavirus measures, doors were closed and people were isolated from one another. Various events at which our newly released film ‘Voice of the Evening’ would have been shown were cancelled.
So we created the online platform kino-online.ch and its English-language counterpart cinema-online.ch: Kino Online – enjoy films at home while still being connected to the world.
The charming ‘Kino Online’ was active from 2020 to 2023 with a small cinema programme and was well attended.
After a break, we decided to make ‘Kino Online’ accessible again at the beginning of 2026. We show our films and other creative works: films broadcast in cinemas and on TV, short commissioned films, encounters from our travels, as well as fragments and music clips.
In spring 2026, we will launch a three-year project.
We will travel along the ‘European Green Belt’ – the former Iron Curtain that divided Europe during the Cold War with a 12,500 km long restricted corridor – and document our journey through film, photography and text.
We are interested in the diversity of natural spaces as well as the cultural diversity of the people.
We want to understand how this memorial – once a death strip, now a green lifeline – affects people. How can new, peaceful life develop from scars?
We are interested in current events and want to give a voice to people and initiatives who are courageously committed to new and peaceful paths.
We will publish these productions here on an ongoing basis.
In addition, we are opening the platform to contributions from filmmakers, musicians, podcasters and artists based along this route. Documentary films, art films, music films – from 25 countries and 26 official languages, from the Black Sea in the south to the Barents Sea in the far north.
