A film that warms the heart and inspires optimism.

In ‘MARE NOSTRUM – A Concert. A Journey’, pupils from the Scuola Vivante prepare for a concert with Catalan musician Jordi Savall and his 18-piece ensemble from eleven different countries. In interviews with the pupils, the musicians talk about their lives and their homes around the Mediterranean. They talk about their love of music and their instruments.

A month later, an educational trip takes the students to the sea and to the High Atlas region in Morocco to their partner school, the ‘école vivante’. They venture into the unknown and come into contact with the world that is expressed through music in the ‘Mare Nostrum’ concert.

Swiss directors Michelle Brun and Stefan Haupt weave together Mediterranean music, the musicians‘ conversations and thoughts with the experiences and reflections of the travelling young people in a playful, humorous and touching way. A total work of art that shows the dialogue between three generations of the three major monotheistic world religions from eleven nations around the Mediterranean, in an effort to find inner and outer peace.
